Nikon Instruments has been appointed by Molecular Devices as the exclusive UK distributor for the ArcturusXT and Veritas laser capture microdissection and laser cutting systems
The new ArcturusXT and Veritas microdissection systems combine the gentle laser capture microdissection (LCM) and rapid UV laser cutting in integrated platforms to enable isolation of pure sample populations with unprecedented speed, precision and flexibility.
Under the distribution agreement, Nikon will also be supplying the Arcturus range of CapSure LCM Caps, for the precise and rapid extraction of populations of pure cells using laser capture microdissection.
Working together in the UK was a natural progression for Nikon and Molecular Devices as the new ArcturusXT is based on Nikon's successful TE2000 inverted research-grade microscope.
This approach means the ArcturusXT can operate as a truly open system, offering the flexibility to be configured to work not only with standard LED brightfield illumination but also with phase and differential interference contrast, making it ideal for live cell applications.
Furthermore, it can also work with fluorescently stained samples where it benefits greatly from Nikon's Noise Terminator technology which eliminates stray light and ensures optimal imaging, even down to single molecule labelling.
Announcing the new agreement, Robert Forster, general manager at Nikon Instruments UK said: "We are delighted to be able to offer research scientists such an advanced laser microdissection system, especially as it is based on our class-leading TE2000 inverted microscope.
"Over recent years, we have been moving further into live cell care and, as the open format of ArcturusXT allows users to opt for phase contrast and DIC, it complements our portfolio and company philosophy nicely".
Poonam Taneja, director of international sales for Arcturus Products at Molecular Devices, said: "We believe that Nikon's links with, and knowledge of, the high level cell research market will give us a real edge as we seek to expand the Arcturus user base in the UK.
"In addition, we are delighted that users of the Arcturus products will benefit from Nikon's total commitment to customer satisfaction and its extensive service and after sales support".
