The latest one-day LTN networking event was held on 28 March 2007 on innovative technologies in stem cells and regenerative medicine
More than 120 attendees gathered at One Whitehall Place to present the latest advancements in the field, hear guest speakers and to network.
Representatives from companies such as GlaxoSmithKline, Merck Serono and GE Healthcare rubbed shoulders with top-level researchers from institutions across the greater south-east of England, including University College London, University of Southampton, and the University of Oxford.
Speakers included representatives from the Smith and Nephew Research Centre, the University of Cambridge and the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research, and Ian Gibson MP also spoke at the event.
The event was the third in a series of regular day-long events for LTN, and benefited from an extended list of guest speakers and 46 displays of technologies from universities and research centres across London and the greater south-east.
LTN also provides access to a European wide network of innovation by hosting the London office of the Innovation Relay Centre Network (London IRC).
Connections through London IRC meant local attendees were able to make contact with international visitors, representing universities and biotechnology companies from across Spain and Greece.
University of Sussex researcher Mark Maconochie met a vital contact at the event, and said it was "highly unlikely" he would have met them elsewhere.
"The event was also useful for me in highlighting the state of play in industry and what industry sees as the issues that are stumbling blocks in development of the technology," Maconochie said.
Tak Ishikawa, business development director for Ilika Technologies, said the event was very useful, and enabled him to meet some vital contacts.
"It's never easy trying to get hold of the right people - and there were a number of companies at the event I have been trying to meet for a while.
"Also, some of the European contacts that were brought across were excellent.
"I've got a number of interesting opportunities coming up as a result."
