Michelson Diagnostics has announced the EX1301 OCT microscope, which provides high-resolution sub-surface images from much deeper into the sample than is possible with conventional microscopes
Michelson Diagnostics has announced a new product that provides high-resolution sub-surface images from much deeper into the sample than is possible with conventional microscopes.
The EX1301 OCT microscope is ideally suited for probing tissue morphology in biological specimens.
No special preparation of the sample is required.
The microscope uses 'optical coherence tomography' (OCT) to detect non-scattered light from a scanned Near-IR laser, from up to 2mm deep into translucent or semi-opaque material.
Subsequent image processing of the OCT signal enables real-time display of the sub-surface image to the user.
Images 6mm wide x 2mm deep are provided at an optical resolution <10um.
Michelson Diagnostics believes that the instrument will be of value in applications such as cancer research and tissue engineering.
