Duke toured the Camlab facility and saw the modernisation that has transformed the company's warehousing, logistics and customer support activities, as well as developments in internet-based business
Camlab, a laboratory supplies company based at Over, Cambridge, has received a royal visitor, the duke of Kent.
The visit was arranged by UKTI (UK Trade and Investment), the UK government organisation formed to promote innovation and export growth by UK companies, as part of a tour of companies in the Cambridge area.
In addition to distributing its own and many other leading brands in the science industries, Camlab has its own manufacturing business for laboratory plastics that prides itself on innovative designs.
Among the new products seen by the royal visitor was a range of unique tamper-proof sample vessels used in testing for drugs of abuse in sport.
These incorporate security indicator rings that instantly reveal if the bottle has been tampered with or opened prior to or after sampling.
The first production batch has been shipped to the HFL's Horserace Forensic Laboratory in Newmarket.
Managing director Ben Sunderland said "This visit has come at a very auspicious time, and acknowledges the innovations and export growth achieved by Camlab under our new management team.
"In addition to expanding our catalogues and distribution we are currently integrating into Camlab the business of our newly acquired sister company, Patterson Scientific.
"Patterson Scientific is internationally known as an exporter and consolidator to the EMEA regions and is one of the few approved European suppliers to the World Health Organisation".
Camlab is one of the UK's leading scientific suppliers, with 50 years' experience in the laboratory and Industrial market place.
Already claiming UK market leadership in water testing, the company says it is ideally positioned for catalogue and geographical expansion, organically and by acquisition.
Complementing the many leading brand names to be found in Camlab's catalogues are its own branded products, Camlab Chemicals, Camlab Water instruments and reagents and a range of innovative own-manufactured laboratory plastics.
Unusually for a laboratory supplier, Camlab has its own manufacturer-trained in house service organisation.
