Adept Scientific announces the release of a major upgrade to EndNote for Windows, the bibliographic management software used by millions of researchers, authors and students to publish their research
Developed by the Thomson ResearchSoft division of Thomson Scientific, EndNote X1 introduces custom groups to view and manage subsets of references, new 'Cite While You Write' integration with Microsoft Word 2007, seamless connectivity with EndNote Web to simplify collaboration with colleagues, and more.
"EndNote X1 delivers many highly requested features that simplify the way references are viewed, organised and searched," said Keith MacGregor, executive vice president for academic and government markets at Thomson Scientific.
"Now users can create subsets of references - just as they do with music playlists - and collaborate with others using the combined power of EndNote and EndNote Web, available via ISI Web of Knowledge at most academic institutions".
EndNote allows users to search internet-based libraries for the literature references they need to cite in their research papers; build and maintain their own reference databases that can also hold PDFs, figures and illustrations and other associated files; and create bibliographies and figure lists automatically as they write, formatted consistently to the exact requirements of their institution or the publication they're writing for.
New EndNote X1 offers a broad range of enhancements that makes working with EndNote even easier and more productive.
Group references for instant access.
With EndNote X1 users can drag and drop references into subject folders for immediate access to subsets, helping them to manage their references more efficiently.
Each EndNote library can have up to 50 custom groups, and action-specific groups are created automatically for search results and file imports.
'Cite While You Write' with Microsoft Word 2007 for Windows.
EndNote X1 utilises the new Microsoft Word 2007 ribbon technology for intuitive access to 'Cite While You Write' commands.
'Cite While You Write' allows users to locate citations and create bibliographies instantly while writing in Microsoft Word.
In Word 2007 the frequently used commands are organised on an EndNote tab, making them easy for the user to find and select when citing references in scholarly papers.
Collaborate with colleagues and students using EndNote Web.
EndNote X1 integrates seamlessly with EndNote Web, a web-based basic bibliographic tool available as an institutional subscription.
EndNote Web provides a way for users to manage references when away from their desktop computers through a standard web browser.
EndNote users can collaborate with colleagues and students by sharing EndNote Web folders, and transfer references easily between EndNote and EndNote Web.
EndNote X1 also provides time-saving enhancements that are tailored to how researchers work today.
For example, users can now view all authors for a reference in the main list display, and attach up to 45 files - PDFs, graphics, PowerPoints and more - per reference.
Custom reference types can be exported and imported between computers easily, so users can transfer their personal settings.
EndNote X1 also includes new and updated files for searching online resources, importing references and formatting bibliographies - 1500+ connections to online sources, 600+ import filters and over 2800 publishing styles.
EndNote X1 is designed for Windows 2000, XP, and Vista; a Macintosh version will be released later this summer.
EndNote X1 for Windows is available from Adept Scientific, Thomson ResearchSoft's partner and support centre in the UK and Ireland, Germany and the German-speaking countries, Scandinavia and Finland.
Upgrades and new copies may be ordered online.
EndNote X1 for Macintosh will be available from Adept Scientific in August 2007.
