Double tamper proof closure provides security for transport and storage for sample collection applications involved with drugs of abuse (DOA), raw material, and food and supplement testing
The East of England Development Agency (Eeda) has awarded Camlab a £40,000 grant from its 'Proof of Concept Fund' to further develop an innovative tamper proof plastic closure system designed to provide secure sample collection for storage and transportation applications in a number of industries.
The new closure is also ideal for a variety of legal sampling requirements within the environmental, forensics, healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors.
The new secure plastic bottle and cap features two security rings that provide double protection for sample integrity during transportation and storage.
The bottle size can be tailored to meet individual customer requirements.
The container and closure is provided to customers with the cap in place and with the first security seal intact.
This provides proof that nothing has been added prior to sampling.
Unscrewing the cap and opening the sample bottle releases the first security ring that is retained on the neck of the bottle.
The bottle can then be used to collect and store the sample before the cap is replaced and re-sealed.
A secondary security ring will break if any attempt is made to tamper with the sample during transit or prior to testing in a controlled environment.
The new bottle and cap system has been designed to be simpler to open and close, less costly, smaller and lighter.
No special tools or instructions are required to close or open the cap.
The use of a compression seal makes it leak proof and different coloured caps can be used for different applications.
Simplicity of design (one cap closes securely and reseals twice) is combined with IATA approval for transportation of biological samples and other hazardous goods.
Camlab's managing director Ben Sunderland, said: "The Eeda grant will enable us to enhance the numerous application benefits of this innovative product.
"Indeed Camlab is keen to partner with other companies involved in the tamper evident application sectors that require such a cost effective and simple solution.
"We are prepared to work with them and tailor the product to meet their specific requirements".
