Special limited edition commemorative gold-tipped pipette marks 50th anniversary of the discovery of the structure of DNA by Watson and Crick
This year sees the 50th anniversary of the birth of the genetic era, for it was in 1953 that James Watson and Francis Crick published their renowned paper in Nature that elucidated the structure of the DNA double helix.
The occasion is being marked by a series of events jointly organised by the MRC, The Cavendish Laboratory and the Sanger Institute.
To celebrate this milestone Anachem is introducing a limited edition commemorative Gilson Pipetman in recognition of the many years involvement of Gilson in genetic research and Anachem's own long standing relationship with the MRC.
This special version has all the same precision, accuracy and robustness of the renowned Pipetman but includes a small commemorative plaque embedded in the handle plus a striking gold tip ejector.
"We want to offer scientists something relevant and long lasting to remember the event," says Giulio Cerroni, managing director of Anachem Life Sciences. "One of the workhorse tools of every laboratory is the manual pipette and the Gilson Pipetman has become the gold standard in liquid handling.
So, what better way to celebrate 50 years of the double helix than to introduce a commemorative pipette embellished with the MRC 50 years logo." Only 1000 of the commemorative Gilson Pipetman will be available for sale in the UK, from 25 April 2003, on special request, but at no extra cost.
Three models will be produced, P2 (0.2µl-2µl), P10 (1µl-10µl) and P100 (20µl-100µl), covering the volume ranges most commonly used in molecular biology laboratories.
Anachem is one of the major sponsors of the MRC celebratory conference.
In addition, Anachem will be making a contribution back to science to support the next generation of Watsons and Cricks, by providing the MRC with the Anachem 50 years of DNA bursary to use for student travel or training.
