The institute, which has received significant funding from BBSRC since its inception, has been recognised for its entrepreneurial approach to exploiting biotechnological research
The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) has congratulated the Institute of Biotechnology, University of Cambridge, on being awarded one of the Queen's anniversary prizes for further and higher education.
The Institute, alongside this year's other winners, was honoured at an award ceremony at Buckingham Palace this month (February 2008).
Steve Visscher, BBSRC interim chief executive, said: "BBSRC is very pleased to see the Institute of Biotechnology being honoured with this prize.
"It has taken the sort of multidisciplinary and integrated approach to bioscience research and entrepreneurship that the UK needs in order to turn our world-class science into economic benefits".
The success of the Institute of Biotechnology in bioscience entrepreneurship and in working with industrial partners will be a highlight of the largest single gathering of biotechnology entrepreneurs later this year.
In May, BBSRC will be celebrating the role of bioscience entrepreneurs and the part they play in the UK economy and society with a reception that will highlight the sheer scale of their many contributions.
