Ondax, a manufacturer of volume holographic gratings and single-mode wavelength stabilised laser diodes has pushed its photosensitive glass to a new level of performance
The glass has a super low absorption and can now support double the optical power for the same shift in wavelength.
Frank Havermeyer, product line manager for custom VHGs, said: "This is a major accomplishment for Ondax, which supplies beam combiners and VHG PowerLockers to customers with extremely high power levels in excess of 1KW.
"This also impacts laser sources for the display industry where heat generation can lead to cooling requirements, which usually means additional cost and decreased lifetime.
"This breakthrough, not only benefits the high power applications, but also enables low power applications, such as pico projection.
"Pico projectors used in, for example, PDA devices like cell phones, are extremely cost sensitive and so low heat is essential to making laser sources an affordable solution".
