Saint-Gobain offers its SecurEdge Plus edging pads, the latest generation blocking pad specially engineered for super-hydrophobic lenses
The combination of SecurEdge Plus's foam core base and high performance adhesive ensures optimal torque resistance with no slippage.
Its high performing adhesive eliminates the need for supplementary film and reduces total systems cost by minimising waste and enabling a single-step solution.
"Super-hydrophobic coatings are designed to repel dirt, water and unfortunately conventional pads," says Ronny Senden, SecurEdge market manager, Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics.
"SecurEdge Plus accurately secures the lens in place during edging without compromising lens integrity".
The SecurEdge Plus foam core is uniquely manufactured with a microcellular polyurethane substrate for superior torque resistance and conformability.
Additionally, the pad is engineered with two separate adhesives - one for the block and the other for the lens.
The lens adhesive is specifically formulated to meet a wide range of super-hydrophobic coatings.
Ensuring error-free application, the lens surface of the pad is identified with 'SecurEdge Plus' printed under the adhesive.
"Proper application technique is crucial to maximizing lab efficiency and decreasing waste," says Senden.
"Lens slippage most often occurs as a result of improper application".
For proper application, thoroughly clean the lens to ensure that the adhesive completely bonds to the surface.
Additionally, since conformity is the leading cause of slippage and offset lenses, it is crucial to match the block and lens curvature to provide good wet-out.
