Nikon UK Instruments Division has recruited two graduates to expand its bioscience team to give maximum benefit and support to users of its confocal microscopes and live cell imaging systems
"The appointments reflect Nikon's commitment and determination to offer the highest calibre user support in this area," comments Chay Keogh, marketing manager, Nikon UK Instruments.
"Through our team and technology we are able to anticipate rapidly-evolving research needs with advanced imaging systems which can be tailored to meet individual customer's needs".
James Hutt joins the biosciences sales team, recruited in response to the growth of Nikon's business in the capital.
Hutt will be responsible primarily for supporting the London research and clinical imaging communities.
He completed his PhD in neuroscience at King's College, London, after gaining a first in biological sciences from University of Reading.
Having taken the leap out of academia, Hutt is enthusiastic about his new challenges: "This new role provides me with an opportunity to transfer my experience of optical technologies to other research and clinical groups and to provide education in microscopy and digital imaging, I am looking forward to meeting Nikon's vast and loyal customer base as well as researchers wishing to embark on new imaging possibilities.
"There is real potential to form terrific partnerships between Nikon and leading imaging scientists".
Another graduate, James Bancroft, joins Nikon as sales representative for the West Midlands, mid Wales and Sheffield area.
He achieved a first in biological sciences from the University of Birmingham and is passionate about imaging: "I thoroughly enjoyed microscopy at university especially live cell imaging and during this time I was impressed by Nikon's people and products.
"The best thing about the job for me is that I learn something new every day".
James Bancroft replaces Kate Passam who has been promoted to her new role as a biological imaging systems specialist.
The growth of Nikon's advanced imaging business means that it now has dedicated team of specialists in addition to a full sales and support network for the UK.
On her appointment Passam commented: "I am really looking forward to the challenges ahead.
"In the last six years I have seen rapid changes in optical technology and how these advances have been reflected in the area of biological research, particularly in cell care for in-vitro and in-vivo studies".
Passam graduated from the University of Keele in 2002 in biology and biochemistry and has worked for Nikon as area manager in the UK Midlands, as well as lecturing at digital imaging training courses and seminars.
