Dr Ronald Bowsher of Millipore was presented with a Presidential Citation by the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) during the association's 2008 annual meeting.
Dr Bowsher is chief scientist for Biopharma Services at Millipore.
The award was given to him in recognition of his leadership in developing a successful training programme for AAPS members in the field of ligand binding immunoassays, which have had a major impact on biomedical research and clinical diagnosis.
Bowsher was nominated for the award by AAPS president Karen Habucky, who also presented him with the award.
Ligand binding assays play an important role in diagnostics and drug development.
The assays incorporate a specific antigen or antibody that binds to an analyte.
The antibody is linked to a radioisotope, enzyme, or fluorescent compound, which allows the bound antigen to be identified and quantified.
The two-day ligand binding training programme was first given in 2006.
It has since been given in several venues over the years.
Plans are to continue evolving the course to keep it current with the latest developments in the field of immunoassay testing.
