The Armen Instruments Centrifugal Partition Chromatography system (CPC) is now available from Chromsolutions.
This technique is particularly useful for the purification of peptides post-synthesis, since all the separation is performed in liquid phases.
The stationary phase liquid is held in a centrifuging barrel while the sample is injected in a solvent of a different polarity and the separation is achieved using partition.
This means that the risk of a valuable peptide being irreversibly bound to a traditional silica-based column as with traditional liquid chromatography techniques can be avoided as can unwanted inadvertent hydrolysis reactions.
The Armen CPC system can be supplied to purify up peptides from the mg to kg scale and at the higher preparative scale can operate in True Moving Bed mode.
Costs of consumables can also be reduced as the Armen CPC instruments do not require silica columns.
Any CPC system can be tailored to separate generally polar molecules such as peptides.
The same instrument can be adapted to separate hydrophobic compounds in oil analysis, for example, very easily by adaptation of the solvent system.
