Aurora has created a small automated liquid handling workstation designed to perform all stages of SPE and/or LLE from sample addition to final analyte isolation.
In LLE mode, the Versa Mini LLE/SPE workstation allows bulk addition (via reagent drop) of organic/aqueous reagents and aspiration of desired phases.
In SPE, the positive pressure feature allows for fast washing and separation of the analyte from the solid phase.
The deck has a vortex shaker and heating/cooling blocks can be added.
The system works with different sized vials, tubes, columns and plates.
A recent application is quantifying circulating levels of 25-hydroxy vitamin D given its importance for diagnosis of intestinal malabsorption and vitamin D deficiency or intoxication in humans.
Vitamin D isoforms must be extracted using partitioning chromatography.
The Versa Mini LLE is suited for this and many other applications including metanephrine and B-carotene extraction.
