Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham has installed two Elga Process Water Medica Pro RE120 water purification units in its biochemistry laboratory.
The Medica Pro range has four models, delivering up to 4 litres/min of high-purity water to individual or multiple clinical analysers in alternative configurations, depending on whether the analysers require a pressurised or non-pressurised supply.
With resistivity better than 10Mohm.cm, TOC below 30ppb, silica less than 50ppb and bacteria count less than 1cfu/ml, the purified water easily meets the specifications for CLRW grade (CLSI).
Inside the Medica Pro's compact cabinet, mains water is pretreated by a Protek cartridge containing high-capacity adsorbant, to remove chlorine and chloramines, followed by a high-flux reverse osmosis membrane that rejects 90 per cent of dissolved salts and over 99 per cent of organic and particulate contaminants.
A degassing E cartridge removes dissolved carbon dioxide to extend the life of the downstream Medpure de-ionisation cartridge.
After de-ionisation, a UV lamp provides disinfection and photo-oxidation of residual trace organics, and final 0.05 micrometre ultra-microfiltration ensures microbiological purity.
Consistent system performance is assured by continuous recirculation of purified water and by regular sanitisation using the Medica Pro's simple, fully validated, semi-automatic sequence that minimises user intervention and requires no removal of filters or consumables.
The treatment cartridges are easily replaced using quick-fit connections, and all cartridges are fully traceable for validation.
Medica Pro units are supported by a national network of field service engineers.
