Following a successful pilot, the Institute of Clinical Research (ICR) has announced its first Global GCP (good clinical practice) Certification exam will take place 23 April 2009.
The Global GCP Certification exam is designed for clinical research professionals with more than two years' experience in a clinical-research role, that wish to demonstrate their applied proficiency in their area of expertise.
The exam comprises three sections: a core section focusing on ICH GCP; a section covering global variations, where candidates choose to answer questions on the EU Directive, Code of Federal Regulations or Schedule Y; and a section covering functional variations, which allows candidates to answer questions relating to the specific job roles of site staff, CTAs (clinical trial administrators), CRAs (clinical research associates) or project managers.
Successful candidates will receive designations such as certified European CRA or certified Indian project manager, depending on the sections of the paper they choose to undertake.
The ICR also operates certificate and diploma exams to assist its members to provide a route to becoming a registered member (RICR) of the institute.
The certificate exam consists of 60 multiple-choice questions and can be taken if candidates have acquired the theory and basic principles of clinical research.
The diploma exam requires candidates to have a minimum of six to 12 months' experience of clinical research.
This is a scenario-based exam; candidates will answer three of the nine scenarios presented to them.
Those that wish to sit the Global GCP Certification exam on 23 April should send an email to the ICR exam co-ordinator.
