Cambridge Viscosity has announced that the American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM) has developed a new standard test method - ASTM D 7483-08 - for oscillating piston viscometers.
The ASTM standard covers the Determination of Dynamic and Kinematic Viscosity of Liquids by Oscillating Piston Viscometer.
Oscillating piston viscometers allow viscosity measurement and control of a broad range of fluids including those that are transparent, translucent and opaque.
The measurement function of the viscometer is fully automatic to reduce measurement errors.
An electromagnetic piston maintains a continuous fresh sample while under test and requires a small sample volume.
The test method can be particularly suitable for many petroleum products and lubricants for bearings, gears, compressor cylinders, hydraulic equipment, fine and general chemicals and coatings where proper viscosity is important for product performance.
'This designation enables us to provide our customers with ASTM-recognised technology for both lab and production areas,' said chief executive Robert Kasameyer.
