Malvern Instruments' Morphologi G3 image analysis-based particle characterisation system has won the particle analyser category of the inaugural Laboratory Equipment Readers' Choice Awards.
The award was presented during Pittcon 2009.
Morphologi G3 provides microscope-quality images and statistically significant particle size and shape information, through the rapid analysis of hundreds of thousands of particles - all with little or no user intervention.
It also allows the fully automated detection, enumeration and size classification of foreign particulate matter (FPM) collected on a filter.
An analytical tool for research and development, the Morphologi G3 is also used in QC and for other routine applications where the instrument is operated by various users.
In developing the system, the aim was to make sample dispersion an integral function, maximise automation and minimise the manual, user-dependent controls and settings on the system.
Full automation using standard operating procedures (SOPs) eliminates the user bias inherent in manual microscopy methods, and SOPs allow straightforward method development and easy electronic transfer.
Automatic calibration, conformance to 21CFR Part 11 requirements and full IQ/OQ documentation ensure that the system is accurate and repeatable and all data is secure and validated.
