Overbrook Scientific and Phytronix Technologies have signed an agreement for the distribution of the Phytronix LDTD (laser diode thermal desorption) ionisation technology to laboratories in the US.
LDTD technology is claimed to increase the speed of analysis of compounds by 20-100 times compared to techniques based on liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry.
LDTD is a plug-and-play device that snaps on any LC-MS/MS and offers high-throughput capabilities.
The device is designed to deliver the same sensitivity obtained by any LC-MS/MS system at less cost and provide better price/performance over the limitations of APCI and Maldi techniques.
LDTD can be used in pharmaceutical, proteomics, forensic, military and environmental industries, high-throughput CROs, as well as other analytical fields.
This design allows a rapid laser thermal desorption of the sample followed by atmospheric pressure chemical ionisation (LDTD-APCI).
The increase in analysis speed enables laboratories to maximise the output of current mass specs, and possibly eliminate the need for additional LC-MS/MS instrumentation.
