Olympus America has announced the US Patent and Trademark Office has issued patent number 7,542,596 - 'Method and Apparatus for Internet, Intranet and Local Viewing of Virtual Microscope Slides'.
The company said this patent further broadens the scope of its portfolio in the field of virtual microscopy.
The patent claims methods for the transmission of virtual microscope image data and allows for the quick and efficient viewing of these large image files over the internet or intranet.
The patent also relates to methods for multiple users to simultaneously view and discuss images over the internet or intranet.
Olympus's patent portfolio broadly covers many of the fundamental aspects for the creation, storage, transmission, and remote viewing of virtual microscope slide images.
