Wyatt Technology will host its 20th Annual International Light Scattering Colloquium (ILSC) on 19-20 October 2009 at the Four Seasons Biltmore Resort in Santa Barbara, California.
In conjunction with the ILSC, Wyatt will also be hosting an Eclipse FFF-MALS Focus Meeting on 21 October 2009.
This year's colloquium will showcase Wyatt's dynamic light scattering (DLS) solutions from the Dynapro product line, in addition to its own classical light scattering (Dawn and Minidawn), viscometry (Viscostar), and Eclipse AFFF products.
Delegates will have the opportunity to listen to a panel of prominent speakers presenting a range of applications all utilising Wyatt Technology instruments.
There will be several poster discussion sessions stimulating different application conversations throughout the two days, where attendees present their own data and discuss method development.
Speakers over the course of the two days will include a member of the American National Academy of sciences and head of the Department of Structural Biology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Angela Gronenborn, who will deliver a lecture on 'Shining Light on Protein-Protein Interactions: Synergy Between Scattering and NMR'.
German Academy of Natural Sciences member and professor of biochemistry at the University of Zurich, Switzerland, Andreas Pluckthun, will be discussing 'Light Scattering as an Essential Tool in Protein Engineering', while Nobel Prize winner in chemistry and professor at Caltech, Robert Grubbs, will be addressing 'Synthesis of Polymers of Precise Structures Using the Olefin Metathesis Reaction'.
The MALS Focus Meeting on the third day of the colloquium will be dedicated to the exchange of experience among users of the Eclipse FFF system.
The application focus of the meeting will be proteins, biopolymers and liposome/virus particles and it will take the format of a round-table discussion, structured along different topics.
For each session there will be a talk given by an expert in the corresponding topic as an introduction to the general discussion.
Speaking at the FFF-MALS Focus Meeting will be industry experts Dr Jan-Martijn Hamelink from Glaxosmithkline and Dr Shawn Cao from Amgen.
Participants will also be provided with an opportunity to deliver short presentations of their own results and present problems or questions to the experts for general discussion.
