Digital Healthcare's Optomize product for diabetic retinal screening has been installed at the Eye Institute at the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine at the University of Hong Kong.
The contract was awarded to Digital Healthcare for the supply of its Optomize software for population-based systematic screening following a tender process that was undertaken in April 2009.
Optomize was chosen because of its proven capability in supporting diabetic retinopathy screening programmes.
The product is currently used for managing the diabetic retinopathy screening service for 41 schemes across England and Wales, currently covering 1.2 million diabetics, and is deployed in a wide range of geographical designs and scope including mobile units, community clinics and hospital locations across varying technology bandwidths.
Specifically, Optomize meets in full the requirements detailed in the Hong Kong University tender including: storage and retrieval of patient demographics (name, ID, age, gender and so on); archiving and backup of images; call and recall system for patients appointments; programme for grading of images; generation of report letters to general practitioners patients and hospital consultants; able to export information in Diacom standard; compliance with the recommendations of the UK; and the ability to cope with 10,000 screening episodes per year.
