The Genomic Medicine Institute (GMI) at Seoul National University College of Medicine in Korea has bought seven additional Illumina Genome AnalyzerIIx sequencing systems.
This brings the capacity of its recently established Asian Genome Center to 10 Illumina sequencing systems.
Dr Jeong-Sun Seo, director of the Genomic Medicine Institute, and his team have completed a deep sequencing project of the Korean genome; the work was published online in Nature on 8 July 2009.
GMI focuses exclusively on human genome analysis and its clinical application.
As part of the Asian 100 Genome Project, GMI plans to complete the whole genome analysis of 100 Asian individuals by 2012 and establish an Asian Genome Database with comprehensive genome information specifically targeting Asian populations.
