JAI has released of a line of monochrome-interlaced video cameras designed to provide higher image quality, expanded features and increased design flexibility.
The three camera models - the TM-770, the TM-773NIR and the TM-775NIR - are for applications utilising traditional RS-170 (EIA) standard video interfaces and are aimed primarily at defence and homeland-security applications.
They can also be used for a variety of industrial applications.
Although identical in outward appearance, the three cameras give designers a choice of pixel sizes and optical formats ranging from the 2/3in ICX422AL sensor in the TM-770 to the 1/2in ICX-428AL in the TM-775NIR and the 1/3in ICX258AL in the TM-773NIR.
The latter two sensors provide added sensitivity to near-infrared light as indicated by the 'NIR' designation in the model name.
The three models have the same physical footprint.
Operating at the standard 768 x 494 TV resolution (30fps), the cameras provide improved image quality compared to older interlaced models (signal-to-noise ratio of more than 55dB) and reduced EMI emissions measured at 12dB below the maximum limit for Class A products.
A single 15-pin connector is used for power, camera control and video output, making installation clean and simple, according to the company.
All camera features can be controlled via RS-232 commands over this single interface cable.
Other standard features include electronic shuttering up to one 10,000th of a second, a horizontal mirror image capability and an integrated three-axis control function that can be used to operate motorised zoom lenses, to change focus and iris settings or to move pan and tilt heads - or any combination of three external control circuits.
JAI has created a variety of configuration options that are suitable for defence and surveillance applications.
Also included are: auto level control (ALC) to automatically adjust gain and shutter settings during changing lighting conditions; a conformal coating; pixel blemish compensation; and an extended temperature capability for operating in temperatures ranging from -40C to +65C.
All three camera housings measure 32mm x 42mm x 48mm and support C-mount lenses with adjustable back focus.
