The Institute of Clinical Research (ICR) has launched a training course aimed at helping new freelancers to get started.
The training course, entitled 'Starting a Business as a Freelancer', is due to take place on 4 November and will be offered with 50 per cent off the rate.
The course will combine trainer input, group discussion and question-and-answer sessions, helping delegates establish the differences between employment and running their own businesses, including the financial, practical and emotional aspects.
Allan Smith, co-author of the ICR's guide to freelancing and who recently featured on Radio 4's 'Starting a Business' programme, is the trainer for this course.
The course will advise delegates on how to protect their personal wealth from exposure to financial risk, improve profits through effective marketing and deal with books and accounting; the course will also discuss the best trading formats for each situation, such as limited companies, sole traders or working through an umbrella company.
The 'Starting a Business as a Freelancer' course will take place at the ICR's UK headquarters in Buckinghamshire and will cost GBP210 for ICR members, GBP255 for non-members and GBP165 for those in the health service and academia.
