Olympus has introduced a UIS2 version of its Super 20x water immersion microscope objective.
The objective delivers higher overall performance with enhanced, brighter fluorescence signal collection, higher resolution and easier specimen access for a variety of research applications.
Its numerical aperture (NA) has been increased to 1.0 for optimal resolution and light gathering ability, while maintaining 2.0mm of working distance for imaging deep into tissue.
Designed for use with electrophysiology and specialised fluorescence applications, the objective has an insulative tip design, improved micromanipulator access (from 31 to 38deg) and improved light transmission characteristics, especially in the near infrared (IR) region of the spectrum.
The Super 20x is designed to look through specimens that are prepared without a coverslip.
Olympus UIS2 glass formulations and the ultra-wide coating technologies have increased the objective's transmission characteristics by as much as 8-10 per cent in the near IR range.
The access angle has been improved by more than 22 per cent for easier patch clamping and micromanipulation.
