Metrohm has brought out the 860 KF Thermoprep instrument for thermal sample preparation in Karl Fischer titration.
It can be combined with a range of titrators for volumetric and coulometric water determination.
The 860 KF Thermoprep heats the sample under investigation in a hermetically sealed vessel.
The moisture liberated from the sample is transferred via a carrier gas stream into the titration cell, where it is determined.
This makes the 860 KF Thermoprep ideal for reliably analysing difficult samples, such as plastics or salts, which release their water slowly or only at elevated temperatures, as these samples are not suitable for direct KF titration.
As the sample does not enter the titration cell, side reactions with the KF reagents are eliminated.
Thanks to the clearly arranged menu navigation, all parameters can be set with just a few keys to suit individual requirements.
The sophisticated design of the 860 KF Thermoprep prevents the needle from descending outside the septum.
In most cases the oven method requires no toxic solvents.
