Millipore Corporation has redesigned its Millex 13mm sample preparation syringe filter.
The filter, which is used in laboratories to prepare samples for critical techniques, including HPLC, UHPLC and LC-MS, has been redesigned to provide greater speed and recovery than conventional syringe filters of the same size, according to Millipore.
Increasing filtration speed (the speed at which fluid is forced through the filter) also increases pressure on the filter housing.
The 13mm filter utilises a Millipore housing design that withstands higher operating pressures than conventional 13mm filters (up to 150psig) and therefore allows for faster filtration.
In addition, the device is low in extractables (compounds leaching from the device) that can be detected by sensitive analytical instruments.
It also has 50 per cent less sample hold-up volume, so more sample is recovered after filtration.
'The new 13mm Millex syringe filter is manufactured in a clean room to pharmaceutical standards with fully automated equipment and 100 per cent visual and physical inspection,' said Rebecca Duguid, analytical sample preparation product manager.
This 13mm Millex syringe filter can be used to prepare from 1ml to 10ml of sample.
It is available in two pore sizes and four membrane materials: polyethersulfone (PES), polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), nylon and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF).
The housing is colour coded by membrane type for easy identification.
The device is compatible with a wide range of solvents and other chemicals, which makes it suitable for all analytical applications and sample types.
