The 743 Rancimat from Metrohm is a computer-controlled instrument for the oxidative stability analysis of fats, oils and other rendered products, including biodiesel.
With eight sample positions, two separate heating blocks and a software solution for controlling methods, samples and data, the 743 Rancimat is designed to meet the demands of both research and high-volume testing laboratories.
Applications include: vegetable fats/oils (soy, sunflower, corn, canola, coconut, peanut and palm, for example); animal fats/oils (butter, fish oil and lard); fat- or oil-containing products, such as direct measurements (margarine) and after-fat extraction (cereals, biscuits, cookies, nuts, bacon, sausages and meat); antioxidant research; the oxidative stability of biodiesel and fatty-acid methyl ester; and the oxidation stability of light heating oil with a Cu catalyst.
Features include: eight measuring stations at two different temperatures for the analysis of multiple samples; up to four Rancimat instruments per PC or up to 32 samples at up to eight different temperatures; the individual start of each channel to ensure consistent results; disposable reaction vessels to eliminate cross contamination; complete Windows 98/2000/XP control of heating blocks, curve evaluations, methods and calculations; simple data handling and sample analysis for one or more samples; a database archive with sorting, filtering and data export options; automated and manual curve evaluations using a direct and tangential method; temperature extrapolation (converting the results to other temperatures, such as storage temperature); and integrated validation and GLP features for the exact calibration of the 743 Rancimat software.
The 743 Rancimat software offers the complete Windows-based control and storage of method parameters, including temperature, time and air-flow rates.
Large amounts of sample data can be automatically stored and evaluated based on selected customised or standard methods, such as the American Oil Chemist Society's AOM-AOCS Cd 12c-92.
Curve and temperature evaluations include the ability to estimate product shelf life.
Designed with eight positions of disposable reaction vessels and measuring cells to minimise cleaning time, the 743 Rancimat saves time and cost while improving accuracy and reproducibility, according to Metrohm.
The GLP Test Kit, with a certified temperature sensor, now makes it possible to adjust sample temperature settings more precisely and reproducibly, thus making results more consistent across samples.
