Spectra-Physics, a Newport brand, announces a 5W, all-in-one, diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) laser for solar cell, LED and microelectronics manufacturing, as well as laser-marking applications.
The green Q-switched Explorer XP 532-5 laser combines the laser head and electronics into a single, compact package that fits in the palm of the hand.
It features a small footprint with air-cooled design, offering thermal management of less than 100W under normal operating conditions.
The lightweight package (less than 3kg) allows it to be integrated into machine tools and makes it suitable for use on moving gantries.
The Explorer XP 532-5 industrial laser delivers short pulse width for minimum heat-affected zone and high-quality micro-processing, as well as high peak power for marking or selective ablation tasks.
Its beam quality results in improved spatial resolution and depth of focus, translating into wider process windows.
Based on Spectra-Physics' architecture, the laser delivers pulse-to-pulse stability for consistent processing and higher yields.
The Explorer XP 532-5 laser operates across a wide repetition rate range from single shot up to 300kHz for high-throughput micromachining.
Other applications include LED chip marking, resistor trimming, memory repair, LIDAR and thin-film PV manufacturing.
All optical components are soldered in place, eliminating unwanted solder flux and minimising organic contaminants that can degrade laser operation.
The ruggedised laser is tested to endure bare product shock and vibration with accelerations of up to 100G.
It offers reliable 24/7 operation and durability, even in the harshest environments.
The Explorer XP 532-5 will be showcased at SPIE's Photonics West at The Moscone Center, San Francisco, from 25-27 January 2011.
