Biotage has introduced two new instruments that utilise positive pressure for solid-phase extraction (SPE) of analytes in a wide variety of applications.
The Biotage Pressure+ 96 processes 96-well SPE plates, while the Biotage Pressure+ 48 processes up to 48 SPE columns simultaneously.
Pressure+ is designed to utilise a consistent, uniform flow of positive pressure that effectively displaces both low- and high-viscosity samples.
Individual wells operate independently, increasing the overall reproducibility of analyte recoveries.
According to Biotage, conventional vacuum manifolds face challenges such as plugged wells, where faster flowing channels run dry, creating free-flow paths for vacuum through the dry ports.
Another challenge that conventional systems face is that, as less viscous samples vacate their wells, vacuum pressure drops exponentially, leaving higher-viscosity samples on the plate and resulting in variable analyte recoveries.
Biotage claims the positive pressure technology of Pressure+ manifolds eliminates these issues, resulting in increased recoveries, greater reproducibility, easier validation and greater productivity for the user, saving time and money.
Pressure+ manifolds are designed to work with Biotage Isolute SLE+ supported liquid extraction (SLE) plates and columns.
SLE+, in conjunction with Pressure+ manifolds, offers an efficient alternative to traditional liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) for bioanalytical sample preparation, extracting aqueous samples up to 10ml.
Isolute SLE+ is claimed to provide high analyte recoveries, eliminate emulsion formation and reduce sample preparation time by up to 50 per cent.
