Thermo Fisher Scientific has introduced the STP 420ES tissue processor, designed to enable high-throughput tissue processing and leaner workflows.
The company claimed the tissue processor enables faster turnaround times for same-day diagnosis and leaner workflows through operational flexibility.
The STP 420ES has a dual-chamber design featuring rotational agitation that is said to increase the flow of traditional reagents sevenfold to reduce processing times.
It can process up to 420 cassettes per run.
Holding 360 and 60 cassettes in the first and second chambers respectively, the second chamber allows independent processing of STAT samples, as well as special or difficult tissues, without disrupting routine workflow or requiring the use of a second instrument.
By performing multiple runs per day and two protocols simultaneously, Thermo Fisher Scientific said a laboratory using the STP 420ES can benefit from increased processing capacity and superior agitation with no additional capital expenditure.
In addition, when used in combination with the Fast Flex range of reagents, the tissue processor can halve traditional processing times to 4.4 hours for 5mm specimens and less than one hour for biopsies.
Users of the STP 420ES are able to increase or decrease processing speeds, leaving the laboratory and staff in complete control of workflow.
The control and monitoring of both chambers is provided via a single touch-screen user interface.
