AbD Serotec has announced the availability of a new HUCAL monoclonal antibody targeting PTEN-induced putative kinase 1 (PINK1).
The PINK1 gene encodes a serine/threonine-protein kinase located in the mitochondria.
Research indicates that PINK1 protects cells from stress-induced mitochondrial dysfunction.
Mutations in this gene are linked to one form of autosomal recessive, early-onset Parkinson's disease (PD).
The PINK1 gene was initially identified as a causative gene of familial PD in 2004 and interest in PINK1 has grown significantly since.
Between 2009 and 2010 more than 180 references were published around PINK1 and in excess of 50 have been published so far in 2011.
The antibody, clone 11408 (product code HCA150), is HUCAL derived and therefore unique to AbD Serotec.
HUCAL PINK1 compliments three existing AbD Serotec antibodies; two HUCAL antibodies to DJ-1 (PARK7) and a popular alpha-synuclein specific polyclonal antibody, all of which have been linked to autosomal recessive PD.
