Meritics is offering the Surfer gas adsorption instrument for pore size characterisation and specific surface area analysis.
Meritics is offering the Surfer analyser for pore size characterisation from equipment manufacturer Thermo Scientific.
Analysis of the pore volume, pore size distributions and specific surface area of porous materials can be important in providing an indication of both a substance’s solubility and its reactivity with other materials.
Surfer uses the technique of static volumetric gas adsorption in controlled pressure and temperature conditions to provide measurement of the micro-structural properties of solid materials and powders.
The technology is suited to applications where the characterisation of very small pore sizes (in the mesoporous and microporous range) is required.
Typical applications include the analysis of adsorbent surfaces, such as zeolites and activated carbon.
It is also used in applications where pore dimension and specific surface area measurement is needed, including pharmaceutical powders, metal supported catalysts, pigments, silica and alumina.
According to the company, Surfer’s main advantage is its flexibility.
With a modular design and customisable setup, the instrument can handle analysis of samples from non-porous and macroporous materials at the upper end to the ultra-micropore range.
