Lions' Lair entrants revealed

The entrants for the Lions’ Lair competition at Lab Innovations 2013 have been unveiled this week.
ETI, Cleaver Scientific, Vacuubrand, CTS Europe and Ash Scientific are all pitching their newest technologies to an expert panel of judges, in front of a live audience, in order to find the most innovative new product at the show.
The judges (or lions) - who include Warren Jackson, analytical services manager at Premier Foods and Jeremy Hargreaves, PhD, incoming materials and lab manager at Nestle - will first hear from Ash Scientific which is entering its new GA2100 ESI-HPIMS spectrometer.
Its performance is comparable to UPLC and offers unique advantages in isomer separation. With a touchscreen interface and compact design, it’s ideal for a mix of applications such as chemical synthesis, reaction monitoring, cleaning validation and dissolution testing.
Rice will be on the Lions’ menu courtesy of ETI. Sushi rice has the potential to be a breeding ground for pathogens if not properly prepared. In addition, many prefer to eat Sushi at room temperature, making refrigerated storage less desirable.
Proper preparation of acidified rice is therefore important to ensure customer safety. To ensure that proper acidity levels have been reached, ETI has created the ETI 8100 pH Plus. This two-in-one, pH and temperature instrument incorporates an easy to read LCD display. The 8100 indicates pH over the range of 0 to 14 pH with a resolution of 0.01 pH, and temperature over the range of -39.9 to 149.9 °C, with a resolution of 0.1 °C.
CTS Europe, which won the competition last year, will be hoping to make it a double with its new Glove Bubble. This product, making its UK debut at Lab Innovations, provides a very easy to use sealed environment for sample handling.
Competing for the top accolade will be Cleaver Scientific with its ’Safe’ Series. This has been designed to make DNA electrophoresis procedures safer, more convenient and more economical.
Completing the entrants is Vacuubrand whose CVC 3000 detect bench-top device is a ready to use two-set-point vacuum controller. It consists of the electronic vacuum controller CVC 3000 with an integrated ceramic diaphragm vacuum sensor and vent valve.
Lions’ Lair takes place on the first day of the Lab Innovations. The show also features a full range of exhibitors, 40% of which are launching new products or services at the show.
