Latest food contaminant risks revealed

Pathogens and pesticides are the most commonly found contaminants in food, new research suggests.
According to analysis conducted by research firm Research & Markets (RM), the global food market is subject to contamination by pesticides, pathogens, toxins and genetically modified organisms (GMOs).
In its latest research report ’Global Food Safety Testing Market Outlook 2018’, RM analysts have studied the global food safety testing market in terms of contaminants and key markets.
It found that pathogens occupy a considerable share in global food safety testing market by contaminants, after pesticides.
Some of the commonly used methods for food safety testing are polymerase chain reaction (PCR), chromatography and ELISA.
Among all the methods, the study found that PCR is the most preferred food safety testing method for pathogens and GMO worldwide.
Food testing methods are constantly diversifying the way food safety experts test consumer products.
The latest technique being developed for the food safety market is the chemical fingerprinting of commodities such as cheeses, meats and oils.
