Agilent reaches agreement with the US National Cancer Institute establishing terms under which members of the NCI's Mouse Models of Human Cancers Consortium may purchase Agilent microarrays
Agilent Technologies has announced an agreement with the National Cancer Institute that establishes terms and conditions under which members of the NCI's Mouse Models of Human Cancers Consortium (MMHCC) may purchase Agilent microarrays.
Microarrays are used in research experiments to measure the activity of genes in a cell or tissue.
By comparing the activity of healthy and diseased tissues, or by analysing patterns of gene expression, researchers aim to identify which genes may serve as markers or predictors of various diseases, including cancers, or which may present potential targets for drug intervention.
"Although the genome has been sequenced, the challenge still remains to understand the function of genes and their role in disease," said Barney Saunders, vice president and general manager of Agilent's BioResearch Solutions Unit.
"We are confident that the high sensitivity and quality of our microarrays will help bring clarity to the roles that various genes play in disease, and will assist these and other researchers worldwide in their efforts to understand and potentially defeat cancer." Members of the MMHCC include researchers at Baylor College of Medicine, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Dartmouth University, Harvard Medical School, Fox Chase Cancer Center, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, NCI Center for Cancer Research, University of California at Irvine, University of California at Los Angeles, University of California at San Francisco, University of Cincinnati Medical Center, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of Texas Southwestern, University of Wisconsin at Madison and Vanderbilt University.
The agreement applies to the following off-the-shelf Agilent products: Human 1 cDNA microarray kit.
Human 2 cDNA microarray kit.
Mouse cDNA microarray kit.
Rat cDNA microarray kit.
Human 1A oligo microarray kit (60-mer).
Mouse development oligo microarray kit (60-mer).
Fluorescent direct label kit. Fluorescent linear amplification kit.
In situ hybridisation kit plus.
