Agilent makes board appointment Koh Boon Hwee appointed to Agilent's board of directors
Agilent Technologies has announced the appointment of Koh Boon Hwee to its board of directors.
Boon Hwee, who holds investments in a number of start-up companies, is an executive director of MediaRing, a Singapore-based communications company involved in internet telephony technology, and Tech Group Asia, a manufacturer of plastic tools and components for the electronics and medical industries.
He is also chairman of Singapore Airlines and on the board of US-based BroadVision.
Boon Hwee, 52, widely recognised in Asia as a leader in IT, electronics and telecommunications, was previously the chairman of Singapore Telecommunications, one of Asia's leading integrated communications service providers.
He also spent 14 years with Hewlett-Packard, where he served as HP's first local managing director of operations in Singapore, and later, as the company's Asia Pacific director of manufacturing and business development.
Boon Hwee holds a bachelor of science degree from Imperial College, University of London, and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
"I am very pleased to have Boon Hwee join our board," said Agilent chairman, president and CEO Ned Barnholt.
"His understanding of the Asian market environment, coupled with years of experience in running large corporations, will help us to take advantage of the many business opportunities that exist in that region.
Asia is currently Agilent's strongest growth area, and we expect that market to remain a very important part of Agilent's business.
In addition, Boon Hwee will bring a fresh perspective to Agilent's board." Current Agilent board members include David Lawrence, independent lead director, and chairman emeritus, Kaiser Foundation Hospitals; Heidi Kunz, former executive vice president and chief financial officer, Gap; Robert Herbold, executive vice president (part-time), Microsoft; Barry Rand, chairman and CEO, Equitant; James Cullen, former president and chief operating officer, Bell Atlantic; and Walter Hewlett, independent software developer.
