Determines the molecular weight of analysed proteins to confirm the presence of desired recombinant proteins, and allows automatic deconvolution of raw Tof-MS data
Agilent Technologies has introduced protein confirmation software and system upgrades for the Agilent LC/MSD time-of-flight mass spectrometer (Tof-MS).
The protein confirmation software allows researchers to easily and reliably check the identity and purity of proteins.
This is a critical activity in the research and manufacture of protein-based therapeutics, which have comprised more than a quarter of all new drug approvals since 2000.
The new software determines the molecular weight of analysed proteins to confirm the presence of desired recombinant proteins.
It also provides a qualitative purity assessment of analysed proteins, which aids in the detection of post-translational modifications. Users can deconvolute raw Tof-MS data automatically using a built-in Bayesian algorithm or manually via a user interface.
For each analysis, the user receives a report listing expected and unexpected molecular weights, which helps to identify any unknown molecules in the sample.
Agilent is also introducing several enhancements for the Agilent LC/MSD TOF mass spectrometer.
The Tof-MS data acquisition software can now interface directly with the Agilent capillary electrophoresis (CE) ChemStation data system.
This allows users to combine Agilent's CE systems with the Agilent Tof mass spectrometer into an integrated CE/Tof-MS solution for biomarker discovery and metabolomics applications.
Additional system upgrades include enhanced instrument autotuning, which significantly reduces the time required to tune the Tof-MS instrument, and compatibility with the Agilent atmospheric pressure photoionisation (APPI) source and the Agilent 1100 series isocratic and quaternary pumps, which allows the instrument to be used in a broader range of applications.
