DNA quantification kits allow quick and reliable measurements of the amount of amplifiable DNA present in a sample prior to forensic analysis
Applied Biosystems has launched two new forensic testing kits to identify human DNA or male-specific DNA present in forensic samples.
Based on real time PCR technology, the Quantifiler human DNA quantification kit and the Quantifiler Y human male DNA quantification kit allow quick and reliable measurements of the amount of amplifiable DNA present in a sample prior to forensic analysis.
The Quantifiler Y human male DNA quantification kit in particular is the only commercially available kit that can detect male DNA from a mixed DNA sample, providing a valuable tool for the analysis of samples collected from sexual assaults. Determining the presence and amount of DNA in samples is an important first step in forensic identification and the two new Quantifiler kits offer an improved system to streamline and potentially reduce the number of failed identification tests. Pre-formulated internal controls in each reaction quickly pinpoint the presence of human DNA in quantities as low as 0.023ng/ul and a simple three-step protocol minimises handling, helping to reduce manual errors.
The Quantifiler kits are designed for use with both the Applied Biosystems 7000 and 7900HT sequence detection systems and are ideal for a range of laboratory workloads.
