The Biolab Medical Unit was set up in 1984 as a specialist referral laboratory to examine the nutritional status of patients, using modern analytical techniques to carry out tests that are unavailable at most other pathology laboratories.
At Biolab's premises just off London's Harley Street, space is a really precious asset.

Subsequent evaluation of the GC, the 205 autosampler and CSW32 data handling package has also borne out many of the other claims made for this innovative series of instruments.
John McLaren-Howard, one of the founders of the Biolab Medical Unit, said "The nature of our work means that we have had to develop special software for some of our applications, and the accessibility of the 200 series software has made it easy to integrate the two.
"We also appreciate the performance of the chromatograph itself - like the improved oven cooling that cuts down the delay between runs.
"And the autosampler design - you can change the syringe in seconds compared to several minutes of fiddly adjustments with our other instruments".
The main application areas for the instrument are the determination of amino acid profiles and metabolites and other metabolic indicators like histamines, serotonin and dopamine.
