ClinPhone is embarking on a nine month project to overhaul its IT subsystems in order to make its customers' data even more secure and reliable.
By investing in a state-of-the-art storage and backup software platform from IBM, and by building a completely new data centre to supplement its existing one, ClinPhone says it will have more flexibility and capacity to manage clinical trials data for its growing customer base and worldwide operations.
To date, ClinPhone's solutions have been deployed in over 1100 trials across 80 countries and in 71 languages, with 331 current live trials.
This investment in key infrastructure will reduce risk and allow ClinPhone to strengthen its business continuity plans and capabilities.
"Our current infrastructure already handles in excess of 100,000 transactions per month and as this is set to grow quite considerably, we are implementing new systems that will not only make our operations more robust, but will also give us more capacity and a completely scaleable solution.
"We will be able to quadruple the amount of data we currently process", explains Daljit Cheema, IT director, ClinPhone.
Daljit continues: "It means that the data that we collect and process on behalf of our clients will be safer, more efficient, and continue to be available 24/7. "This venture is not just about implementing technology, it is also about people and procedures.
"We already have stringent procedures in place with uninterrupted on-call support. "Our new IT platform will ultimately make our operation more flexible and secure, and our new second data centre will further strengthen our systems against any downtime as the volume of clinical transactions grows in line with increased sponsor demand for our services".
ClinPhone's new data centre will benefit from fibre optic connections.
This will make the flow of information risk-free and will satisfy prevailing guidelines. Moreover, in an industry that is highly regulated, this new IT infrastructure will satisfy client and regulatory audits. Standardising on the IBM enterprise platform for storage (San Volume Controller - SVC) and backup (Tivoli), ClinPhone's ability and capacity to handle its customers' complex clinical trials data will be further enhanced.
As the company adds new technology solutions to its portfolio, such as patient diaries and patient recruitment solutions, it says this investment in a future-proof infrastructure is all the more important.
