Cambridge BioScience has been appointed distributor for Chromagen in the UK.
Chromagen developes fluorescence detection kits and assays for life science research and drug discovery.
Central to its technologies is the StarBright family of fluorescent compounds.
These possess unique properties making them well suited to the detection of molecules in biological applications. Used either as direct fluorescent labels or fluorogenic enzyme substrates, these fluorophores are among the most sensitive fluorescent reagents available, capable of providing one million assays from each gram of fluorophore.
For gene expression profiling, StarBright is incorporated into a range of proprietary technologies for both single and multi-target quantitation.
These assays are highly sensitive without the need for target amplification technologies such as PCR, making them ideal for lead identification, gene family profiling and drug metabolism and toxicology testing.
Other Chromagen products include Polaris protein activity assays which can be used to rapidly and cost-effectively analyse the effects of test compounds on protein kinase activity, proteases, receptor-ligand binding, and monitor cell signalling processes that induce changes in cellular regulation or gene expression.
Polaris assays provide homogenous assay formats for the rapid detection of proteases, tyrosine and serine/threonine kinases, and G-protein coupled receptor activities.
