Primary lab standard and secondary process measurement unite in this system, employing both HTF/HDT and Karl Fischer techniques
Cosa Instrument says that years of dedicated research and development have led to creation of the moisture package which allows accurate moisture measurement in hydrocarbon liquid streams in the most challenging conditions.
A combination of the Xentaur HTF/HDT and Karl Fischer successfully measures water concentration and provides continual validation of the data even in the most difficult matrixes, says the company.
For most commercial applications the moisture package enables moisture measurement from <1ppmw to saturation.
Theory of measurement. Al203 oxide sensors measure changes in partial water vapour pressure (PWVP).
They follow complicated principles of physical chemistry.
Henry's Law defines the relationship between PWVP and PPMW (ug/g).
Henry's Law ppmw(ug/g)=PWVP * K.
K is Henry's Law constant, and is affected by sample matrix and temperature.
Xentaur has developed a sample system with an integral grab sample to facilitate the determination and validation of K in the real process.
K has already been computed for many common process streams and incorporated into a look-up-table which gives ppmw(ug/g) measurements directly from the sensor.
Cosa offers a service to perform tests and computations for any specified stream.
Applications include liquid hydrocarbon streams (hexane, hexene, benzene, mixtures and complex matrices), oils and lubricants, solvents and refrigerants.
