Many industries can make significant improvements to their energy efficiency by simple, low investment means
Procuro has recently announced the launch of its new E-scio range of energy monitoring equipment.
The aim of the new range is to make energy monitoring available even to smaller applications, by means of an exceptionally feature-packed product range at far more reasonable prices than have been available in the past.
Many industries can make significant improvements to their energy efficiency by simple, low investment means.
The most basic of these (and often the missing link in the past due to cost) is the measurement and understanding of energy use using an energy monitoring system, perhaps encompassing the installation of further sub-meters.
The UK government's energy efficiency organisation, Action Energy, recommends the use of energy monitoring systems as the first step towards energy efficiency. Savings of as much as 20%, from housekeeping improvements as a result of implementing a monitoring system, are reported from many users.
Larger industrial sites may not be able to realise this without investment, but 5% is a significant saving on such a site.
Five major design principles have been used in developing the e-scio range.
Maximised modularity and expandability the E-scio range covers applications ranging from a single meter read with a Palm PDA every week, to a complex multi-site network encompassing hundreds of meters.
Maximised data integrity - as E-scio networks consist of distributed, battery-backed loggers, contingency is maximised and data integrity far more assured. Flexible and simple installation - loggers can be networked together using existing building ethernet, modems, GSM, radio, RS485 or RS232 connections, meaning the system is extremely well suited to retrofit applications.
Modular, highly functional software - the E-scio data collection software handles all communications, scaling and data formatting functions.
The number of meters, sites and sub-networks is almost limitless, with most standard PCs being capable of capturing data from 240 meters without modification.
The stored data is then available for analysis by the exceptionally intuitive and highly functional monitoring and targeting software, which can be provided as part of the package.
Alternatively, data can be analysed using Microsoft Excel, or similar packages.
Price - with loggers available which collect meter pulse data for less than £40 per meter point and data collection software costing less than £250, Procuro says this system presents a step change in the pricing of such offerings in the marketplace.
