Advice and guidance to laboratories (and other organisations) dealing with the analysis of drinking waters has been published by the Standing Committee of Analysts (SCA), based within the Environment Agency for England and Wales.
A series of documents, 'Methods for the examination of waters and associated materials' - are available to download from the Environment Agency's website.
The latest drafts in the series (parts 11 and 12 of a 12-part series) revising former advice on the analysis of drinking waters deals specifically with taste, odour and related aesthetic problems and is an update on the 1998 edition.
The Drinking Water Inspectorate recognises these methods as useful tools in the investigation and remediation of drinking water taste, odour, and related problems.
They should be used to complement the quantitative methods for compliance analysis given in 'The determination of taste and odour in potable waters 1994'.
