Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS), renowned American specialist in chemical information, has launched a new database with international publications in the field of toxicology.
Toxcenter contains more than five million references to specialist publications dealing with the pharmacological, biochemical, physiological and toxicological effects of pharmaceuticals, food, and chemicals.
Coverage includes the following subjects: adverse drug reactions; air pollution; animal venom; antidotes; carcinogenesis via chemicals; chemically induced diseases; drug evaluations; environmental pollution; food contamination; mutagenesis; occupational hazards; pesticides and herbicides; radiation; teratogenesis; toxicological analysis; and waste disposal.
Information on a specific substance can be retrieved in a straightforward way through powerful search and retrieval programs as well as a professional database structure.
Searching can be done using individual words, CAS registry numbers, or chemical names.
The Toxcenter database is made available via the STN International sci-tech online network.

CAS, the producer of Toxcenter, draws the wealth of information from analyses of international pharmacological, biomedical, and chemical literature (journals, reports, monographs, conference contributions, etc.).
A large amount of information originates from the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP), the US National Library of Medicine (NLM), and from CAS itself. As producer of the world's most important chemical databases, CAS holds huge collections of data.
In addition, data from large files such as Biosis (life sciences), IPA (pharmacology), and Medline (medicine) are also included in Toxcenter.
Records in the database contain the bibliographic information of the publications as well as an abstract.
Each record has a one-click navigation to the STN Full-Text Solution. Another link is available to citations of the publication appearing in other scientific dissertations, sometimes even in patent documents.
Customers can run automatic current-awareness searches (SDIs) in the database - tailored to their specific needs.
Weekly (default) and monthly current-awareness searching provides the capability of monitoring relevant developments. Toxcenter is updated weekly.
Currently the database contains approximately 5.1 million records.
