Less than six months after its launch, a toolkit used to develop brand flavour awareness in staff responsible for spirits throughout the supply chain has been put into use in more than a dozen countries.
The kit contains a carefully chosen set of reference standards.
Specialists and non-specialists alike can use it to learn to recognise and name flavours which are critical to spirits quality and consumer acceptance.
So far it has found use in single malt whisky, blended whisky, bourbon, white and dark rum, brandy, gin and vodka.
The Flavoractiv spirits flavour standards kit was the first of its kind to be made available in the spirits industry and follows the company's success in delivering products and services to the international brewing industry.
Flavours include: fruity-apple, fruity-banana, floral, diacetyl, coconut, medicinal, spicy, sweaty and vanilla.
They are provided in easy to use capsules, each containing enough to produce 200ml of flavoured spirit and sufficient to train a group of ten or more people.
A set of information sheets about each flavour and a CD-rom user guide are also included, helping to make even the least experienced look expert.
Applications for the kit include training of tasters involved in production of spirits; monitoring of taster performance; training of sales and distribution staff; development of journalist awareness of spirits flavour; and development of consumer interest, via focus groups and other organised opportunities for tasting.
