Rockwell hardness tester enhanced to include compliance with ASTM D785-93 and the European equivalent ISO 2039-2 in addition to the more common ISO 6508-2 and ASTM E18
Indentec has enhanced the capability of its best selling 4150 LK Rockwell hardness tester to include compliance with ASTM D785-93 and the European equivalent ISO 2039-2 in addition to the more common ISO 6508-2 and ASTM E18.
This makes it an ideal choice for customers who are required to test both plastic and metal components, says the company.
The unit has been designed for a plastics institute in China which plans to use it in the development of new materials and as a quality control tool for existing products.
ASTM D785 defines two procedures for performing Rockwell hardness measurements on plastic and electrical insulating materials.
Procedure A equates to a standard Rockwell test but specifies R, L, M and E scales with extended full load and recovery dwell times.
Procedure B specifies a 60kgf test force and a 1/2" diameter steel ball as for the HRR scale, but requires the indentation depth to be measured with the major load still applied and designates this scale as HR alpha.
The spring constant or correction factor is stored by the measuring system during calibration so that the operator does not have to subtract this factor from the displayed result.
This machine allows the operator to select either of the two test methods and is designed to have an extended measuring range to accommodate softer plastic materials.
