Don Braggins, director of the UK Industrial Vision Association (Ukiva), has been elected to the executive committee of the European Machine Vision Association (EMVA) at its inaugural business meeting held in Barcelona which was combined with a mixture of market reviews and technical workshops.
He joins representatives from Germany, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland on the committee.
The appointment, made by the general assembly of the EMVA, is for a three year period.
Braggins commented: "I am honoured to join the committee whose role is to ensure the smooth running of the EMVA.
"Our chief objectives include the enhancement of the reputation of the machine vision industry throughout Europe, the establishment of a Europe-wide network of contacts and the provision of a channel of communication both between member companies and between the EMVA and individual country vision associations such as the UKIVA.
"This new role will complement my activities at Ukiva in actively promoting vision to manufacturing industry." The inaugural meeting was said to be highly successful, with 41 companies representing 14 different European countries attending, including seven Ukiva members from five countries.
EMVA was delighted to welcome among these companies representatives from Slovenia and Hungary, which will be joining the European Union in May 2004.
With the United States and Canada also represented, a truly international forum for information exchange was created.
